Select the Customers list from the Role Centre, and open the customer you want to add a title, then select Edit.
Add a caption...
From the customer card, set Partner Type to Person. The Title field appears once you do. It stays hidden for a Company, because a business name does not take a title.
Choose a Title from the list.

How Titles Appear on Documents
The title is stored on the document when the customer is selected, so a later change to the Customer Card does not rewrite a document that already exists. Sell-to and Bill-to titles are stored separately.
Printouts and invoice emails use the stored title to format the customer name.
Add a caption...
Existing customers: Names that already contain "Mr" or "Mrs" as part of the name are not changed or moved into the new field. If you want those customers to use the Title field, set Partner Type and Title on them.
Changing How Titles Are Formatted

Setting the Salutation Formula
Each salutation code has one or more formulas that decide how the customer name is written out on printouts. To view them, select the salutation code, then choose Formulas.
Add a caption...
Fill in the columns as follows:
Language Code : leave blank to use this formula for customers with no language code set. Add a separate line for each language you need.
Salutation Type : choose Formal or Informal .
Salutation : the text to print. Use %1 , %2 and so on as placeholders for the customer's details.
Name 1 to Name 5 : choose which customer field each placeholder uses. Name 1 fills %1 , Name 2 fills %2 , and so on.
Add a caption...
For example, a salutation of Dear %1 with Name 1 set to Customer Name prints as Dear James Carter.
Add a caption...
Map a Name column for every placeholder you use. If the Salutation contains %2 but the Name 2 column is left empty, the formula is not applied and the printout falls back to the title followed by the customer name, for example Dr. James Carter.
Two things to be aware of:
When a formula uses Name 2 , the second name prints as part of the name line rather than on its own line.
If a customer has no title set, no formula is used. The name and Name 2 print on separate lines above the address.
